Forty percent of agricultural produce is handled by both formal and informal traders, who play a critical role as
channels to direct consumers. Of this 40%, women comprise 25%, actively contributing to the distribution of
agricultural commodities. These traders operate in key markets such as the Chisokone Market in Kitwe,
Kasumbalesa Market (linking Zambia and the DRC), Soweto Market in Lusaka, and Main Masala Market,
among others.

Quality Assuarence
These traders purchase produce from farmers and aggregators, selling it either in bulk or in smaller quantities,
often measured in “Medas” (buckets of 5 kg).
